Giants coach says Odell Beckham Jr. needs to 'be less of a distraction'

Sunday’s game between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins was one of the most exciting and eventful games of the season. The fourth quarter was filled with lead changes and turnovers with the Redskins getting the last laugh thanks to Eli Manning’s late interceptions.

One player who definitely wasn’t laughing after the game was Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He was an emotional rollercoaster on the field and off it for three-plus hours, mainly due to his battle with Redskins cornerback Josh Norman. At one point, Beckham was seen crying on the sideline, shortly after getting smacked in the head by an inanimate object: a kicking net.

After the game, Beckham repeatedly said “I don’t remember” when asked if he was crying, or how he got the scratch on his head. His maturity was certainly brought into question yet again, and even head coach Ben McAdoo believes he has to be better in that department.

"He needs to control himself better and be less of a distraction to his teammates,” McAdoo said on Monday, via the New York Post.

McAdoo said Beckham controlled himself on the field, but on the sideline, it was a different story. He had to speak to Beckham twice about his behavior on the sideline, which is something no coach wants to do during a game, let alone on two separate occasions.

Beckham obviously has some growing up to do, and his coach is well aware of that. Perhaps it was just the result of Norman getting in his head, but this has become a trend in Beckham's first three seasons in the NFL.
