Geno Smith: Brandon Marshall is 'a quarterback's best friend'

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith finally has a couple pass-catching weapons, and he’s particularly pleased with his new veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

According to Eric Allen of the team’s official website, Smith said of Marshall:

The Jets acquired Marshall from the Chicago Bears in March, only giving up a fifth-round pick for the five-time Pro Bowler.

Marshall sustained a scary season-ending injury last season when he absorbed a brutal hit that resulted in two broken ribs and a collapsed lung. The 6-foot-4 target ended the 2014 campaign with 61 receptions and 721 yards, Marshall’s lowest totals since his rookie campaign in 2006.

However, his presence is undoubtedly a positive for Smith and the Jets, who will benefit from a veteran leader and another solid receiver alongside Eric Decker.

Smith finished a tumultuous 2014 season with 2,525 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, so the third-year quarterback is certainly looking forward to having this new best friend in Marshall.
