Garafolo: Redskins OLB Galette tore Achilles, out for year

The Washington Redskins' improved pass rush took a hit on Wednesday.

Outside linebacker Junior Galette sustained a torn Achilles, FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed. ESPN's Dianna Russini reported the initial developments.

The Redskins have not announced the results of Galette's MRI.

''It was just at the end of practice,'' coach Jay Gruden told reporters. ''He was running around a corner and went down. He's not the type of guy that would lay down if there was nothing, so I'm very concerned.''

Galette, who was signed on a one-year deal this offseason after being unceremoniously cut by the New Orleans Saints, is entering his sixth season in the NFL.

Galette, 27, had 10 sacks in New Orleans last season. He had talked on Tuesday about how excited he was that Saturday's game vs. Baltimore would be his first time on the field this preseason. A left pectoral injury had kept the linebacker off the field so far this preseason.

The latest injury just continues what's already been an injury-filled preseason for the Redskins. Four other players also have suffered season-ending injuries this summer.

Galette's teammates were disappointed for the linebacker.

''Junior has (done) everything that we've asked him to, (that) the organization has asked him to do,'' defensive end Kedric Golston said. ''He's been a great addition. You just hope that things work out for him, and we can get him back.''

Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins expressed similar thoughts, hoping the situation's not too bad.

''Our thoughts and prayers (will) just be with Junior getting healthy,'' Cousins said.

In other injury news, Gruden confirmed that safety Akeem Davis (hamstring) and defensive end Frank Kearse (shoulder) will not play Saturday. Gruden also added defensive end Corey Crawford (Achilles strain) to that list.

Gruden said linebacker Ryan Kerrigan (arthroscopic knee surgery) has been practicing well and probably could have played last week - and this week. But Gruden and the training staff will make the decision about Kerrigan playing against Baltimore later in the week. He also has yet to play this preseason.
