Fox explains decision to go for it on fourth-and-goal in Week 11 loss
A curious coaching decision led to the Chicago Bears' loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Down by eight points with 10 minutes left in the game, the Bears decided to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the four-yard line. Quarterback Jay Cutler's pass attempt to running back Jeremy Langford fell incomplete, as the Broncos took over on downs.
After the game, Bears head coach John Fox explained the risky decision. Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune shared Fox's logic on Twitter.
The Bears ended up getting two more possessions after the failed fourth down attempt. The first one ended with a Cutler fumble, but the second one ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Langford.
Although the Bears still had a chance to tie the game, the decision not to kick the field goal earlier in the fourth quarter ended up costing the team. Langford was stuffed on the two-point conversion try, as Chicago fell by a final score of 17-15.
In theory, had the Bears kicked the field goal, they could have won the game, 18-17.
