Former Redskin Chris Chester signs with the Falcons

Despite playing his last 64 games with the Washington Redskins, offensive guard Chris Chester was released by the team last week. It didn't take him long to find more work in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons signed Chester to a one-year deal last Friday.

For Chester, at 32, age wasn't the only factor in the Redskins' decision to release him. Chester was a cherry picked offensive line who best fit the old zone-blocking scheme that former Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan installed in his time with the team. Current head coach Jay Gruden has made it clear in his offseason intentions that he is dedicated to adding offensive linemen with size. The Redskins hired offensive line coach Bill Callahan, a decorated coach with experience and success utilizing more power-blocking concepts.
