Former Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew retires as a Jaguar
Maurice Jones-Drew's tenure with the Oakland Raiders was sure short-lived.
It's no surprise, then, that the nine-year NFL veteran returned to Florida, where he starred in Jacksonville, to sign a one-day contract with the Jaguars and retire.
"This game has done so much for me and my family,” Jones-Drew said at a press conference at EverBank Field on Monday. “Nine years flew by.”
That ninth year in Oakland felt slow by Jones-Drew’s standards, though. He only started one game for the Silver and Black and averaged a career-low 2.2 yards per carry. His longest run as a Raider was only 13 yards.
Jones-Drew says he’ll pursue a career in broadcasting now that his playing days are over.
