Flint water crisis reminds Lions' Quin of Hurricane Katrina atermath

The residents of Flint, Michigan, are dealing with a water contamination crisis, and several NFL players have taken it upon themselves to help out with the relief effort. Safety Glover Quin and the rest of the Detroit Lions' defensive backfield recently delivered 36,000 bottles of water to the affected area.

Quin, who lived in southwestern Mississippi when Hurricane Katrina rocked the Gulf coast in August of 2005, sees some similarities between that humanitarian crisis and the one in Flint.

Via Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News:

Quin was still attending Southwest Mississippi Community College during Hurricane Katrina. He later transferred to New Mexico and became a fourth-round draft pick of the Houston Texans. Although he has been in Detroit since signing with the Lions as a free agent in the spring of 2013, Quin hasn't forgotten the power of charity he experienced first hand more than 10 years ago.

In addition to Quin's donation, Detroit's defensive linemen -- led by Pro Bowl end Ziggy Ansah -- donated 94,000 bottles of water to those in need in Flint.
