Film reveals what happened to Michael Vick's dogfighting pit bulls

It's been six years since Michael Vick was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for running a dogfighting ring. And though he's paid his debt to society and has returned to the NFL, you might be wondering what happened to the dogs that were used.

A documentary called "The Champions", which was released March 1, follows the story of five of the dogs that were rescued and adopted. These stories are not the norm as many dogs involved in dogfighting are considered dangerous and are euthanized for safety reasons.

Vick, who played with the Steelers last season, is now an advocate for animals. He spoke at Pennsylvania's Capitol in December in support of PA House Bill 1516, which gives police authority to rescue dogs and cats from cars due to unsafe temperatures.

"The bottom line is that all animals thrive (on) kindness and respect. They depend on us like our children depend on us," Vick said in December.
