Fear not, you can order your custom 'Harambe' sports jerseys again
The world was sent into a dizzy downward spiral this week when it was discovered that the NFL's online store was banning fans from creating customized jerseys with 'Harambe' on the back, preventing any official tributes to the internet's favorite dead gorilla. (Sorry, Bantu.)
But order was restored on Thursday when ESPN's Darren Rovell reported that the ban had been lifted after some miscommunication between the league and its online retailer.
According to Rovell, an official from Major League Baseball contacted Fanatics, the outfitter that runs retail for the four major sports leagues, to complain about custom Harambe jerseys being made. After that complaint, Fanatics added the name to a list of banned words that would produce an immediate rejection of order. Thus, any request for a custom 'Harambe' nameplate on a MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL jersey was denied.
Word quickly spread online about the ban, which mostly got pinned on the NFL despite their claims that they had nothing to do with it, and Fanatics later removed Harambe from the list. Now, fans are once again free to spend hundreds of dollars honoring a dead gorilla, probably with the number 69 under it.
God bless America.
