Falcons reportedly will re-sign Matt Schaub to a two-year deal
The NFC champion Atlanta Falcons aren’t letting their backup quarterback go anywhere, agreeing on a two-year, $9 million deal with Matt Schaub, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Schaub didn’t get much action last year backing up Matt Ryan, attempting only three passes. The 35-year-old veteran has proven he is a capable answer at quarterback during his 13-year career, throwing for 29 touchdowns in 2009 and 24 TDs in 2010 as the starter for the Texans.
But he’s been relegated to backup duties in recent years, throwing a combined 93 passes his past three seasons. The 49ers reportedly had shown some interest in Shaub, who has played for new Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan, but apparently have settled on Brian Hoyer.
