Ex-Giants coordinator Erhardt dies

Former New York Giants offensive coordinator Ron Erhardt has died at the age of 80.

The NFL team said the offensive architect of its first two Super Bowl titles died in Boca Raton, Fla., on Wednesday morning.

A former NFL head coach with New England, Erhardt worked for the Giants from 1982-91. He was hired by Ray Perkins and retained by Bill Parcells after Perkins left that season to coach the University of Alabama.

During Erhardt's eight seasons as offensive coordinator under Parcells, the Giants reached the playoffs five times, won three NFC East titles and two Super Bowls. They won their first with Phil Simms at quarterback and the second with Jeff Hostetler.
