Eric Berry returns Cam Newton interception for touchdown (Video)

Eric Berry got the Kansas City Chiefs back in the game after returning a Cam Newton interception for a touchdown.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had an excellent season so far. However, they fell behind quickly to the Carolina Panthers 17-6. Eric Berry answered the bell for Andy Reid’s Chiefs by picking off Cam Newton. Not only that, he managed to merge and swerve through the Panthers offense to return it for a touchdown.

Berry came through huge for the Chiefs. He showed some excellent awareness, intercepting an errant pass by Newton. While Berry doesn’t show his best quickness or speed, his defense does a great job blocking for him and he does barely enough to get into the end zone. The Chiefs safety jukes four Panthers out of their shoes at the beginning of the run. Credit Kansas City for helping Berry get into the end zone.

The Chiefs lead the NFL in takeaways because they’re aggressive. Plays like this are why they’re the league’s most opportunistic defense. Kansas City plays smart and rarely let teams get away with mistakes. Berry is one of the biggest reasons why. He is among the NFL’s elite safeties. Though he only has two interceptions, he’s a guy who quarterbacks are consistently afraid of. Berry hasn’t been rewarded much for his effort this season, so it’s great to see him finally get a well deserved interception and return it for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Panthers continue to struggle on offense. This interception isn’t completely on Newton, but his pass didn’t go where it was supposed to go. He threw it up for his receiver and Berry was in a perfection position to take advantage of it.
