Eddie George: Tennessee Titans in disarray

The Tennessee Titans are coming off one of the worst seasons in franchise history. They haven’t earned a playoff spot since the 2008 campaign.
More than this, the team’s front office is somewhat of a mess. Tommy Smith announced that he was resigning from his role as the Titans president and CEO earlier this offseason.
To say that things aren’t going swimmingly in Nashville would be an understatement. And one of the franchise’s all-time great players is speaking out.
"(Titans management) been in such disfunction and disarray,” Eddie George said at a recent charity event in Nashville. “I think once they get their house in order, decide on a mission statement of who they want to be, then you can find the right leaders from your coaches on down to extend that culture. After that, championships can happen.”
Pointing to the top of the hierarchy is perfectly fine, but the team’s player personnel department hasn’t necessarily been among the best in the league. The talent void in Tennessee has been created by a front office that struggled in the past to find high-impact players early in the draft.
Of the Titans last 11 first and second-round picks, not a single player has earned a trip to the Pro Bowl. At a time when teams are building through the draft more than free agency, this isn’t going to get it done.
Now blessed with the second overall pick in this month’s draft, general manager Ruston Webster and company are going to have to hit on that selection. From a potential franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota to an anchor along the defensive line in the form of Leonard Williams, everything seems open to the Titans.
As much as George might want to focus on the top of the Titans organization, and for good reason, the team’s turnaround will begin in the draft late this month. After that, it will be all about finding savvy front office personnel to overlook what had been a sinking ship organization-wide.
