Eagles sign tight end Zach Ertz to five-year extension

If it wasn't obvious after this season that Zach Ertz was the Philadelphia Eagles' long-term option as the receiving tight end, it should be now.

The Eagles signed Ertz to a five-year contract, as confirmed by FOX Sports' NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

The 25-year-old tight end has 169 career catches for 2,024 yards and nine touchdowns. His 2015 season was his best yet. The 2013 second-round pick caught 75 passes for 853 yards and two touchdowns.

The contract extension will be the fourth-highest paid tight end in the NFL, a source tells Garafolo. According to Garafolo, his five-year, $42.5 million contract extension will keep him with the Eagles through 2021.

Ertz wrote on his website, zachertz86.com, about his excitement to return to Philadelphia.

Nothing could make me happier than knowing I’m going to be a member of the Philadelphia Eagles for years to come.

I love Philly. My family loves it. I love how passionate Eagles fans are about their football, how they live and breathe it. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best, and our fans want us to be successful as much as we want to be successful. .
