Eagles' Haason Reddick denies that he's looking for a trade
Haason Reddick isn't looking to leave the Philadelphia Eagles, but he understands that it might be a possibility this offseason.
The star edge rusher denied a report that insinuated he's looking to be traded.
"I would like to get an extension done here at home. At no point did I ever tell the organization I want to be traded," Reddick reportedly told Bleacher Report.
"This is home for me. I was born and raised here. Two of the most fun years playing football in my life came here. I've cherished being an Eagle."
In a social media post, Reddick seemed to brace himself for the possibility that he could be moved after NFL Media reported that he's been granted permission to seek a trade.
"Never asked for a trade," Reddick wrote. "However, I do understand it's a business. Preparing for whatever is next!
Reddick, who grew up in nearby Haddon Heights, New Jersey, has been one of the game's top edge rushers over the last few seasons. He had a career year in his first season with the Eagles in 2022, recording 16 sacks and a league-leading five forced fumbles as he was named a second-team All-Pro. The 29-year-old had another strong season in 2023, finishing with 11 sacks and 23 QB hits to earn a second straight Pro Bowl nod.
Despite his play, Reddick could become a cap casualty for the Eagles as they look to retool following a disappointing 2023 season. He has a $21.8 million cap hit for the coming season, the final in a three-year contract he signed with Philadelphia after beginning his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
Philadelphia started the 2023 season hot after losing last year's Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. But the team sputtered down the stretch and lost in the playoffs' wild-card round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last season, cornerback Darius Slay was also given permission to seek a trade by the Eagles. But the team ended up bringing Slay back this season. That's certainly in play, but if Reddick is available, he'll definitely have suitors.
