Eagles consider switch to kelly green uniforms (VIDEO)

Shades of green have become a popular talking point on Philadelphia radio.

In fact, Eagles president Don Smolenski was asked about a potential change to the team’s uniforms. Specifically, if the Eagles would ever consider returning to the light and bright classic kelly green uniforms — which they last wore on a regular basis during the 1995 season.

“We have talked about it and there are some rules with the NFL that provides some restrictions that we’re trying to work through, but that’s going to take some time,” Smolenski said on the WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. “It’s there, and it’s something that we do talk about, but until some things change at the NFL level it’s going to provide restrictions for us. It is being talked about it, yes.”

While it’s hard to believe the NFL would prevent the Eagles from switching back to their old color pallette, a lengthy process from the league would likely await them.

New uniforms draw oohs and ahhs of casual fans, but die-hards typically side with the traditionalists.

Everyone knows, grass isn’t always greener on the other side — but maybe in this case — jerseys are.

UPDATE (Thurs. 5:18 p.m. ET): Apparently the Eagles are not trying to wear the nostalgic kelly-green threads on an every-week basis. Instead, the team reportedly is only interested in using as a third/alternate jersey choice.

The reported hang-up? The NFL does not allow alternate helmets based on the league's safety protocol, which in Philly's case could leave sporting a new-age helmet style with its old-school jerseys.
