Dwight Freeney reportedly agrees to one-year deal with Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons apparently will bolster their pass rush in 2016 as free-agent defensive end Dwight Freeney is scheduled to meet with the team Thursday and sign a one-year deal, ESPN reported Tuesday.

The Falcons also hinted at the move.

Freeney played in 11 games last season with the Arizona Cardinals, finishing with eight sacks. The 36-year-old pass rusher spent his first 11 years in the NFL with the Colts and has accumulated 119.5 sacks during his 14-year career.

The Falcons missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season in 2015, finishing 8-8 in Dan Quinn's first season as head coach. Atlanta, which finished last in sacks with 19 in 2015, ranked 16th in yards allowed last season, allowing 347.6 per game.

Freeney, a seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end, should provide a veteran presence and be a mentor to Atlanta's 2015 first-round pick Vic Beasley.
