'Donkey Kong' Suh — Cam gives season's first great news conference

Cam Newton seems like a fun-loving guy. From laughing it up with teammates and deadpanning with kids in commercials, to his Superman pose and big smile prevalent in every game, the Panthers' QB has that "it" that most owners want out of their franchise signal-caller.

But when it comes to dealing with media, the former Heisman winner and No. 1 overall pick has made it no secret. News conferences are something he could do without.

So when he met reporters on Wednesday, Newton made it clear through body language he would rather be getting a root canal. But he managed to use some of that deadpan humor to give us the first memorable sound bite of the 2014 regular season.

When asked about his injured rib and ankle that held him out of Week 1's win over Tampa Bay, a weary-looking Newton said:

"Donkey Kong" is a play on the first name of Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

When the talk turned to his feelings about being held out of the game, or about his contract status, the answer remained the same — five times in all:

To be fair, Texans running back Arian Foster, another noted less-than-enthusiastic fan of news conferences, gave the same answer to various questions a whopping 11 times with reporters following a July practice.

For Newton's sake, here's hoping Suh has a good sense of humor.
