Dolphins Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones reportedly will miss remainder of 2016
Just when things started to go right for the Miami Dolphins, they’re dealt a significant blow on defense. According to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero and multiple reports, Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn rotator cuff.
Jones was playing as well as any safety in football this season, racking up 51 tackles, a half-sack and an interception in five games. He’s arguably Miami’s best defensive player next to Ndamukong Suh and was the leader in the secondary.
The 28-year-old safety made his first Pro Bowl last season after recording 135 tackles, five interceptions and two defensive touchdowns in 16 games. Playing in Miami on the lowly Dolphins, Jones doesn’t get much attention. However, he certainly deserves more credit than he gets for making the Dolphins’ defense substantially better.
Michael Thomas and Walt Aikens are the likeliest candidates to replace Jones in the starting lineup at safety.
