Detroit Lions sign veteran CB R.J. Stanford
The Detroit Lions announced the addition of a veteran to their defensive backfield by signing free agent cornerback R.J. Stanford, as the team rounded out its roster to 90 men on Tuesday.
Stanford was a seventh-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2010, but he spent the last three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. The 27-year-old has played in 46 games through four NFL seasons and has recorded two career interceptions.
With entrenched starters in Darius Slay and Rashean Mathis—plus two promising 2015 draft picks in Alex Carter (third round) and Quandre Diggs (sixth round)—in the mix at cornerback, Stanford joins an already crowded competition to make the team.
