Derek Carr Sweeps Weekly Awards
After a franchise record-setting performance, Derek Carr was up for three weekly awards — he won all three.
Throwing for 513 yards on 40 for of 59 attempts with 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s is a performance that will certainly earn plenty of headlines — and in the case of Derek Carr, it will earn you plenty of awards as well.
On top of breaking a Raiders franchise record that had stood since 1964 as well as being only the third player in NFL history — joining Y.A. Tittle and Ben Roethlisberger — to put up such numbers, Carr sweeped the NFL’s awards in Week 8.
First and foremost, Carr was dubbed the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week. His second accolade came by way of fan vote, as he was named named the FedEx Air Player of the Week.
And last but not least, and also via fan vote, Carr was named the Castrol Edge Clutch Player of the Week, thanks to not only tying the game late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass, but also for throwing the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
Carr’s heroics have been on display all season long, and they go back farther than that. Carr is tied for the NFL’s lead in fourth quarter comeback victories since he entered the league in 2014.
Something tells me this won’t be the last time Carr wins any of these awards.
