Derek Carr Injury Update: Raiders QB Dislocates Finger

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is one of the league’s top MVP candidates, so the organization must be concerned about a potential injury.

Some thought the Carolina Panthers could push the 8-2 Oakland Raiders a little bit, but Oakland jumped out to a monstrous 24-7 halftime lead after a tremendous pick-six from edge defender Khalil Mack. The Raiders defense has been firing on all cylinders over the past few weeks, which goes well with one of the league’s most potent offenses.

That offense may have been dealt a blow today, because superstar quarterback Derek Carr was forced to leave the game with what looks like a dislocated finger.

It will be interesting to see how the Raiders handle this injury, but the issue occurred on a fumbled snap. Carr was seen traveling to the locker room shortly after the muffed exchange, but we’ll have to wait for more updates from the organization on his status.

Before the injury, Carr completed a crisp 15 of 20 passes, averaging 8.8 yards per pass attempt with a touchdown and no interceptions. Instead of hitting up Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree for big yardage, Carr was spreading the ball around a variety of targets, making use of Latavius Murray as his leading receiver (38 yards).

Carr has thrown 21 touchdowns this season to just four interceptions, averaging a whopping 280 passing yards per game with a 66.2 completion percentage. He will make his case for being one of the top five quarterbacks in the league for the remainder of the season, and it will be interesting to see how he and the Raiders handle this situation.
