Denver Broncos: Please Give Louis Vasquez a Call Today!
I’m sure the Broncos right now are trying to find any answers they can on offense. Perhaps Louis Vasquez can help with the offensive line.
As a Bronco fan I don’t think I am alone in feeling this season somewhat slipping away. We once again have a very dominant defense that has kept us in every game this year. This offense though could truly be our downfall.
A little more specific this Offensive Line could be the downfall of the Broncos repeating. We saw this on full display against the Titans this past Sunday. On plays with 2 yards or less to pick up the 1st down we went 0-5 in the game. I guess one could argue 1-6 because we did pick up a 4th down and 2 play on a fake punt but that wasn’t our offense. So what can the Broncos do to maybe fix this problem? Well one name we are all familiar with is still ready to go in Louis Vasquez!

Really at this point what can be the harm to at least bring him in and work him out? Louis Vasquez tweeted out just yesterday that all it would take for him is a phone call. He has been waiting and has been training just hoping some team would call. There might not be a better situation then for him to walk into.
He already knows the offense from playing in it last year. Most of the faces in the locker room are still teammates he should fit right in with. Some of the offensive lineman have even talked that he was a great mentor last year. So even if he doesn’t start for us he can be a great voice in the film room for this young group.
I realize there is a reason that Vasquez has not received a call yet. His injuries really hampered his game the last couple of years. Almost a full year away though I would think some of those would be healed by now. This again is where bringing him in for a try out does us no harm. If he is still broken down then we don’t sign him. If he has something left in the tank then he could be a huge signing to really push us back into the Super Bowl conversation.
Remember this. Louis Vasquez just a few years ago was the top offensive guard in football. He was incredible in the pass game and gave us some strength up the middle in the run game. Beyond just that one great year though, even an injured Vasquez graded out very well as a pass protector for the Broncos last season.

Right now I just think the Broncos need to do something. Doing the same thing over and just hoping something clicks isn’t working this year. We cannot expect to win another Super Bowl if we cannot even pick up 1-yard when we absolutely have to have it.
This Offensive Line is struggling to get the push needed in the run game. The spot we have struggled the most in this area is when running to the right side where Vasquez could potentially help. The Broncos when running behind the Right Guard and Right Tackle are averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.
It is even worse when we try to run over the right end as we average only 2.15 yards per carry. Both of those are bottom-5 for the league. That is unacceptable.
I know that Vasquez isn’t built perfectly for the Zone Blocking Scheme, but I have to think he couldn’t do any worse than what we are seeing. At this point I would say Elway the ball is in your court. Louis Vasquez is just waiting for your call. This season is not over by a long shot for the Broncos. Maybe it is time to take a chance on Vasquez and see what happens.
