Deer Carson Wentz: Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Back to Roots on Bye
It’s safe to say that Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles are in the hunt—in more ways than one.
Like every other football worshiper, I get alerts on my phone any time something “big” happens.
Or, in this case, not.
On Thursday when the ESPN theme chimed in the background, I rushed to my phone to get it. This could be a fantasy player going to IR. I’ve had a rocky few weeks in my three leagues; this might be urgent.
What do you do on your bye week? You get your first bow buck! Thanks @DougBurgum for the help!!! #ndlegendary #Sitka pic.twitter.com/QQQCN6TL70

Well, it wasn’t. It was just…cool. And it put a big ol’ smile on my face. With an early bye, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and rookie sensation Carson Wentz got his first breaking-but-not-that-really-big-who-cares kind of story.
Just like any other hunter would do, Wentz took to Twitter and showed off his first bow buck of the season. I say first because he’s more than likely going to be out there again.
I laughed. Not because it wasn’t something that was impressive or fun to show off, but because that’s just the norm in the Midwest. That’s what you do. You go hunting; go fishing; put family first. You go to the high school game Friday night and watch college football Saturday. Sundays are sacred—church and then football. You say “yes, ma’am” and “no, sir.” You have respect. It’s a thing of beauty.

Whether you do all of those things or none at all, if you’re from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, etc., you do one thing for sure: work hard. That applies on the football field, out harvesting, or going bow-hunting. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived around it and am blessed to know people that still live this lifestyle every day.
I’ve seen this kind of attitude before. Carson Wentz is the type of guy that you want on your side. He won’t give up. He’ll work hard and do his job. He won’t have discrepancies off the field—he wasn’t raised that way.
It’s why I know Carson Wentz is going to be a breath of fresh air in the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia sings your praises one day and then echoes “don’t let it hit ya where the good lord split ya,” type exit cues the next. And that’s putting it nicely.
Maybe you’ve hopped on the Wentz Wagon or maybe you’re not convinced. His numbers and performance so far have been kind of too good to be true. Don’t worry. For all you doubters: yes, he will fail. He will have losing games. He will throw picks. He’s human, you know. Or is it, (think Fargo accent) “don’t ya know.”
