Dak Prescott passed on free Kanye West tickets to watch football

Dak Prescott was offered free Kanye West concert tickets. He passed on them so he could watch Thursday Night Football.

You hear so many stories of NFL rookies being knuckleheads. Dallas CowboysEzekiel Elliott was seen visiting a weed shop during a trip to Seattle. Johnny Manziel was photographed … well, doing everything wrong his rookie year

Hold the phone though, a story of a rookie doing something right? Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel reported on a story involving Cowboys’ rookie quarterback Dak Prescott passing on Kanye West concert tickets in favor of watching a football game:

“Prescott did the math aloud: Kanye will go on after 9. The show will last a few hours, which means getting home after midnight. The decision was clear. He offered the tickets to his childhood friend, Cobi Griffin, who declined.”

Prescott also told Thamel he was concerned about the perception of him going to the concert just three days before his third NFL start. Instead of going, he ended up watching the Texans-Patriots game with his childhood friend.

It’s not as though Dak Prescott going to a Kanye West concert would have been awful; NFL players are allowed to have fun, after all. It’s the fact he made a conscious decision to put his and the team’s performance before his own enjoyment.

This story will also aid in cleaning up Prescott’s image following a DUI arrest prior to the 2016 NFL Draft. He was eventually acquitted of the charge, but it lead to a bit of tumble in his draft stock. With that past him, Prescott has played admirably in place of injured quarterback Tony Romo. He has played so well, in fact, that a discussion has been ongoing as to whether Romo will regain his starting job once healthy.

As long as Prescott continues his stellar play on the field and sound decision making off, it’s realistic to see him retaining the starting job for the rest of the season.
