Cowboys vs. 49ers Week 4: Highlights, recap and score

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys head west to take on the lowly San Francisco 49ers in a rivalry that used to be fun.

Back in the 80s and 90s, there might not have been a rivalry in sports more intense or enthralling than the Cowboys and 49ers. They regularly met in the postseason and routinely ended one another’s season on the way to the Super Bowl. The success seemed to come in waves for one team or the other, but there was rarely a moment when the rivalry wasn’t fun.

In the last 10 years, things have died down. Either the Niners have been good or the Cowboys have — never both at the same time like the good old days. This Sunday’s showdown in Santa Cruz is another example of that, as the Cowboys are on the rise with Dak Prescott sweeping the league while the 49ers continue to tread water.

Hopefully we will see a game that harkens back to the glory days of this rivalry

Three Stars

1. Dak Prescott

No matter what you hear about Tony Romo starting in Week 8 when he’s eligible to come back, Dak is the future  of the Cowboys. That sales pitch continues today.

2. Ezekiel Elliott

He’s had fumbling issues the first three games of the season, something that plagued Adrian Peterson throughout his career. That’s an accurate comparison in more than one way, but there’s time to fix things.

3. Blaine Gabbert

Gabbert is playing for his job right now. Another bad game means it’s high time to turn to Colin Kaepernick. He can stave that off by turning in a huge performance against a playoff caliber team.
