Cowboys QB Kellen Moore could miss significant time after breaking leg

The Dallas Cowboys will be in the market for a backup quarterback after Kellen Moore suffered a broken fibula at practice Tuesday and is expected to miss significant time, the team announced.

Cowboys guard Jared Smith stepped on Moore’s leg after being pushed back by defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye.

Moore left with trainers on a cart and had his leg placed in an air cast. He started two games last season with the Cowboys, throwing for 779 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions.

Romo was limited to four games last season, suffering multiple injuries to his collarbone that eventually required surgery.

The injury leaves Jameill Showers and Dak Prescott as the only two backups to Tony Romo on the Cowboys' depth chart. Dallas could reach out to free agent Nick Foles, who was released by the Rams last week.
