Colts' Robert Mathis says he'll be ready for opener after Achilles tear

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Robert Mathis says his rehabilitation from a torn Achilles tendon is ahead of schedule and that he plans to be ready for the season opener in September.

Mathis injured his left leg while training in Atlanta last fall. The injury occurred while he was serving a four-game suspension for using a fertility drug.

The Colts' all-time leader in sacks told WTHR that he is running again and that training and rehabilitation are ''in full swing.''

Colts general manager Ryan Grigson and coach Chuck Pagano have said that Mathis won't participate in next week's minicamp. The team's training camp begins Aug. 1 at Anderson University.

The Colts kick off their season Sept. 13 in Buffalo.
