McAfee, a two-time Pro Bowler, would have earned nearly $6 million the final two years of his five-year, $14.5 million deal he signed with the Colts in 2014.

“I’m real excited to turn my obsessive-type focus towards making the world a happier place,” McAfee told the Indianapolis Star.

The 29-year-old has had three knee procedures in the past four years. McAfee is coming off arguably the best season of his career, averaging 49.3 gross yards per punt, which led the league.

McAfee, who was named to his second Pro Bowl in the past three years, spent his entire eight-year career with the Colts after being drafted in the seventh round in 2009.
