Colts LB Freeney injures ankle in 1st quarter

Pro Bowlers Charles Tillman and Dwight Freeney have left Sunday's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears.

Freeney, one of the few holdovers on the Colts' heavily remade roster, was listed as questionable to return after injuring an ankle in the first quarter. The linebacker was hurt on the Bears' first scoring drive when he was blocked low and appeared to roll his ankle. Freeney and Robert Mathis, Pro Bowl defensive ends who were among the league's most feared pass rushers, have moved to linebacker this season as the Colts shift to a 3-4 hybrid defense.

Tillman also was hurt in the first quarter, limping off the field and appearing to favor his right leg after Indianapolis punted on its first possession. He came back for the next defensive series, but sat out the rest of the half. The Bears announced at the start of the third quarter that he would not return.
