Colts have full faith in Hasselbeck with Luck out

The surprising news that Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck will miss the next 2-6 weeks with a lacerated kidney and partially torn abdominal muscle means that the Colts will once again look to 40-year-old backup Matt Hasselbeck to guide the team until Luck is ready to return.

Hasselbeck has already filled in for Luck for two games this season, leading the Colts to wins over the Jaguars and Texans.

“We’ve got all the confidence in the world, obviously, and we’re very fortunate to have Matt Hasselbeck as our backup quarterback,” Indidanapolis head coach Chuck Pagano said, per the team's official website.

“Certainly from a confidence standpoint from players, coaches and everybody in this organization to know that you got a guy that’s got the volume of snaps and plays under his belt and the experience of Matt, and the fact that he’s gone out and won two football games for you already this year is obviously very positive moving forward.”

With the Colts sitting atop the AFC South at 4-5 and coming off a win over the undefeated Denver Broncos, Pagano said Hasselbeck is fully capable of leading the team for as long as necessary.

“We will win football games with Matt,” Pagano said.

“We will overcome this, and Andrew will make a full-recovery. We all know that, and he’ll be back in the lineup at some point. We will overcome.”
