Clay Matthews Jr. fined for hit that led to Brian Hoyer's broken arm

The NFL is fining players for everything this season — including a celebration in which a Giants player pretended to take a photo of a teammate who just scored a touchdown.

Clay Matthews Jr. is among the latest — according to multiple reports, the Green Bay Packers linebacker was slapped with an $18,231 fine for his hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer, who broke his arm on the play and is expected to be out six to eight weeks.

While Matthews wasn't flagged on the play, the NFL ruled that he led with his helmet as he combined with Julius Peppers on the tackle. It may seem like an ordinary football play to old school fans, but the NFL clearly is trying to protect players — especially QBs — by cracking down on helmet hits that lead to injuries.
