Chiefs vs. Chargers: How Kansas City wins

The Kansas City Chiefs are opening the season at home against division rival the San Diego Chargers, can the Chiefs keep their winning ways to start 1-0 for 2016?

It’s HERE! Finally the regular season opens tonight with the Denver Broncos taking on the Carolina Panthers (Go Panthers). But enough about those pesky Donkeys let’s focus on our favorite boys in red the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs have the pleasure of welcoming into Arrowhead a divisional opponent in the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers were swept by KC in the games they played in 2015 with a combined score of 43-6, ouch. The thrashing the team gave San Diego was fun to watch, unless you were a fan of SD. However, it was in the second game of the season, KC won 10-3, that was gut wrenching. Linebacker Dee Ford was the hero of the game as he knocked away the ball for the win.

This first game of the season probably will not be as exciting as the close 10-3 win in 2015, but it will be fun to watch. The Chiefs are looking to restart where they left off with the regular season last year. They shocked the NFL as they won the final 10 games of the season. Then went on to win in dominating fashion their first playoff game in two decades.

They have brought a lot of the pieces back minus a couple on defense. Chiefs all-time leading rusher in Jamaal Charles will be back this season and they kept both Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West. Justin Houston’s out injured for awhile, but they have defensive tackle Chris Jones help solidify the middle to the defense. There are pieces on both sides of the ball that give the team and fans hope for a great 2016.

With all that in mind, how can the team take the first game of 2016? Well simply, put it is doing a lot of the same things they did last year.

Look for the Chiefs to put the foot to the gas in this first game as the combination of Ware and West put a hurting on the San Diego defense. Smith will be his usual self as he even shows flashes of airing the ball down the field. Phillip Rivers does have the ability to beat you with his arm, but his supporting cast around him is lacking. This leads to Rivers being sacked at least two times in this game that the Chiefs dominate.

The Kansas City Chiefs win this game 31-13 and start 2016 1-0 and undefeated in the AFC West.
