Chiefs Smith, Maclin still growing as a top QB-WR tandem

They're not on that mind-reading level just yet.

But once ball picks up again next month, Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin plan on developing that sixth sense that all dominant QB-WR tandems have.

“I feel really good about where things are right now, where they’re going, how they have progressed,” Smith told the team's official website. “I think with all of the restrictions and stuff that are in place now in the offseason, I don’t see how we could have done any more.”

Smith is right. Without pads or hitting, it's tough to gauge how effective he'll be in delivering a catchable ball to his new No. 1 target.

That's what training camp is for. Fans will get plenty of looks at Smith-to-Maclin as the duo irons out preseason kinks this summer.

"It kind of feels like this is not our first rodeo," Maclin said. "I think we’ve hooked up a lot in practice on timing, on plays where he is just kind of throwing the ball and trusting me to make the play and stuff like that.

“I think we’ll want to continue to get better but I think we’re off to a great, great start.”
