Chiefs at Texans: Week 2 inactives

Here are the inactive players for the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans for their Week 2 matchup and playoff rematch.

Just as was the case the last time the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans squared off (in the playoffs), we likely won’t be seeing running back Jamaal Charles suit up for Andy Reid’s squad.

The four-time Pro Bowler was listed as doubtful on Friday’s NFL injury report and is expected to miss his second straight game after playing in only five contests a year ago.

It took some doing last week, but the Chiefs managed to rally for a 33-27 overtime victory against the visiting San Diego Chargers. And Spencer Ware was a big reason Reid’s club was able to pull off the greatest comeback in Chiefs’ history, rallying from a 24-3 third-quarter deficit.

Perhaps the bigger concern for Kansas City is the fact that left guard Parker Ehinger and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif have already been ruled out for this tilt for the Texans.

Speaking of the offensive line, Houston left tackle Duane Brown will sit out another week while the right side of this unit, guard Jeff Allen (facing his former team) and tackle Derek Newton (who didn’t practice on Friday) are both listed as questionable.

One-time Denver Broncos tackle Chris Clark will replace Brown for a second consecutive Sunday and it’s safe to say he’s quite familiar with the Kansas City front seven. In any case, head coach Bill O’Brien and offensive coordinator George Godsey hope to make it another busy day for running back Lamar Miller. Last week, the 2016 free-agent pickup amassed a career-best 28 rushing attempts (for 106 yards) and 32 total touches in the team’s 23-14 victory.

This shapes us as an interesting encounter for both of these hot clubs. The Chiefs are riding an 11-game regular-season winning streak following last season’s 1-5 start. Houston is 8-2 in its last 10 regular-season contests after opening 2-5 a year ago and has won four straight. It adds up to a nail-biter in the state of Texas.
