Hats off to the Chicago Bears. They continue to fight. Unfortunately the injuries are just robbing them of the ability to finish games at this point.
Even so there are plenty encouraging signs with this team. The defense is playing really well and the offense looks like it might be healthy receivers away from putting some points on the board. There is a lot of work left to do for GM Ryan Pace and his front office. It’s well know that the 2017 NFL draft could potentially vault this team into playoff contention. Can they get it done?

Jamal Adams

Everybody talks about Jabrill Peppers but in reality LSU standout Jamal Adams might be the best safety in the 2017 draft class. He’s big, strong, tough, experienced and versatile. His primary success comes as a box safety where he sniffs out screens and excels against the run. However, that overshadows how sneaky good he’s been in coverage. He understands how to play the center fielder role and has enough athleticism to line up on tight ends. Just a good, all-around player.

There is no question the Bears are in the hunt for a quarterback. Matt Barkley is not a realistic option. Jay Cutler is done and Brian Hoyer had his chance. This team needs a fresh start. Trubisky exhibits many of the qualities GM Ryan Pace favors: accuracy, ball placement, and poise from the pocket. He’s also mobile enough to get first downs on the run and plays good football late in games. The rawness is still there, but properly coaches he has tremendous upside.

Jordan Leggett is exactly what their searching for. The 6’5″ kid from Clemson is a big athlete with basketball type skills. He can run well with enough speed to create separation and has reliable hands. Whenever Deshaun Watson has needed a big catch, Leggett always seems to be there to make it. Maybe not flashy, but he’s a weapon who can make things happen and ease the pressure on the receivers.

Cameron Sutton was considered a 1st round favorite out of Tennessee when the season began. Unfortunately an injury derailed his seasons. The good news is his rehab has gone well and he should be 100% before the predraft process begins. He is a tough, physical corner who is stout in man coverage. He likes to intimidate but does so without drawing too much attention from the refs. Tackling is also an art he takes seriously. Sounds like a Bears kind of guy.

After a shaky start to the season it appears tackles Charles Leno and Bobby Massie have settled in. Mind they are great but they’re at least steady. This 2017 class is not rich on top offensive linemen, so the Bears would probably do better grabbing somebody a little later to see if he can pan out into something more. Adam Bisnowaty is an unheralded key to the wildly successful Pitt offense this year. A tough, strong block who functions well in both pass protection and on the ground. A blue collar guy who does his job.

The Detroit game showed one other thing. Too many of the Bears reserve wide receivers can’t catch. Josh Bellamy and Deonte Thompson were never supposed to see the field. With Eddie Royal likely gone, the team has to thing about adding another body who can bring needed depth. One area they could really use more of is speed. Chicago has size covered. K.D. Cannon is a legitimate deep threat out of Baylor. His route tree is limited but he has the quickness and agility to improve. Decent size. He’d be good for 2-3 big plays per week.
