Chargers RB Mathews limited in practice, won't play Sunday

Chargers running back Ryan Mathews returned to the practice field for the first time since spraining his right knee on Sept. 14 but will not play in Sunday's game at Miami.

Mathews did limited work Friday. The Chargers have their bye next Sunday and Mathews hopes to play in a home game against Oakland on Nov. 16.

''It's great to have him out there,'' coach Mike McCoy said. ''He's worked extremely hard, fighting through a tough injury early on. He's done everything he can. So he's getting close. He's taking it one day at a time. And it's great to have him run around out there.''

Also listed as out are cornerback Jason Verrett, who has a torn labrum in his left shoulder, and inside linebacker Manti Te'o, who hasn't played since fracturing his right foot Sept. 21.

Safety Jahleel Addae, who suffered a concussion in a loss at Denver on Oct. 23, hasn't been cleared to return and is listed as doubtful.

Linebacker Jerry Attaochu (hamstring) is listed as questionable.
