Chargers midseason 3-round mock draft

During this tumultuous up-and-down season for the Chargers, there has been some downfalls as well as a lot to look forward to. The Chargers look like a team with a good mix of young and talented players that could really make a push for the playoffs if not more if they had just a few more pieces. With that being said, here is a three-round mock draft for the Bolts.

1st Round: Jamal Adams, SS, LSU

With the first pick for the Chargers’ 2017 draft, I have them selecting Jamal Adams, strong safety out of LSU. The reason being is that all throughout this season, the Bolts’ defense has looked good. From the front seven consistently causing havoc either in the run game or getting after the quarterback, to the cornerbacks consistently holding receivers to modest numbers if not erasing their impact. Which then leads to the safeties, a group that hasn’t been bad but could surely be upgraded especially at the strong safety position that is manned by a mixture of the often injured Jahleel Addae, undrafted free agent Adrian Philips and former CFL standout Dexter McCoil.

Adams is a standout at LSU as he shows a ball-hawk type skill set with his ability to cover slot receivers and tight ends while also being a stout tackler and presence in the box. Also, his leadership and passion for the game is really high. He’d make a great addition to the locker room and field while also addressing a need that the Chargers have had since Rodney Harrison left.

2nd Round: Ryan Ramczyk, LT, Wisconsin

In the second round, I have the Bolts selecting Ryan Ramczyk, left tackle from Wisconsin. The offensive line, which was in constant rotation last season, has actually take a step forward with the addition of Matt Slauson and the general improvement in health amongst the linemen. Although there has been improvement, upgrades can always be made especially to a pivotal position–and it’s time to upgrade from King Dunlap. Dunlap has been a solid pass-blocker but not good enough in the run game while also continuing to miss games because of recurring injuries.

Ramczyk is an intriguing prospect because he has hardly played. He sat out one season to go to technical school, redshirted the next and is now the Wisconsin Badgers’ starting left tackle. Although he hasn’t had much playing time as a Cam Robinson or Roderick Johnson, he’s just as talented and has played extremely well against teams like LSU, OSU, Michigan and Nebraska. Ramczyk also displays good athleticism, great size and is at a school that seems to produce quality offensive linemen like trees produce apples. He would fill a need and has the upside to become a franchise left tackle.

3rd Round: Isaiah Ford, WR, Virginia Tech

With the Chargers’ third-round pick, I have them selecting Isaiah Ford, wide receiver from Virginia Tech. If you’ve been watching Chargers football this season, then you would know that the Bolts’ receiving corps has been decimated by injury this season. With that being said, it will be an important offseason to find weapons to surround Philip Rivers with.

Ford is a 6-foot-2, speedy wide receiver who just came off of a 75-reception, 1,164-receiving yard and 11-touchdown sophomore year. Ford is well on pace to match that if not top it this year. He would be a great addition to the Chargers because of his intermediate route-running and deep-threat ability. He also has the versatility to play on the outside or inside as a slot receiver, which is big for the Bolts. Also, think about an offense with Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, Travis Benjamin, Hunter Henry and possibly Isaiah Ford in it–that would be dangerous.
