Chargers experiment with a dual Gordon-Woodhead backfield
San Diego can field a dynamic backfield option now that Melvin Gordon is on the team.
Make that two dynamic backfield options now that Danny Woodhead is healthy.
Head coach Mike McCoy is experimenting with a dual Woodhead-Gordon backfield that could give opposing defenses fits, according to ESPN. It's a move Chargers coaches toyed with last season before injuries took their toll on his depth chart.
Now, McCoy will get to toy around with his lineups and create dangerous mismatches. Quarterback Philip Rivers could have a field day throwing to Gordon, a dangerous receiver at Wisconsin, and Woodhead, one of his most trusted targets.
Linebackers and safeties better come prepared to deal with both backfield pass-catchers next season -- or else.
