CB Trufant officially retires as member of Seahawks

RENTON, Wash. -- When it was clear Marcus Trufant's time was done with the Seattle Seahawks following the 2012 season, he was given a message by general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll.

If the time came when Trufant was ready to retire from the NFL, they wanted him to do it as a member of the Seahawks.

Trufant got that opportunity Thursday, officially retiring from football after signing a one-day contract with the Seahawks. Trufant spent his entire NFL career with the Seahawks, with the exception of the 2013 training camp when he was in the Jacksonville Jaguars' camp. Trufant was released at the end of training camp and remained out of football during the 2013 season.

Trufant was a first-round pick by the Seahawks in 2003.
