Cardinals pick Northern Iowa RB Johnson in 3rd round

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) The Arizona Cardinals, in need of a running back to complement Andre Ellington, selected one in the third round of the NFL draft, making David Johnson of Northern Iowa the 86th player selected overall.

The first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference back was the first player in school history to have three consecutive 1,000-plus-yard rushing seasons at Northern Iowa, Cardinals great Kurt Warner's alma mater.

The slightly built Ellington struggled through last season with a foot injury and Arizona's rushing offense ranked last in the NFL.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound Johnson broke 15 school records.
