Cam Newton vows not to have Kelvin Benjamin go catchless again

Kelvin Benjamin was on the field for the Carolina Panthers' loss to the Vikings in Week 3, but his presence would be difficult to discern from the box score. Benjamin finished the game with no catches and was targeted just once, something Cam Newton knows he needs to rectify.

"That can't happen. That can't happen," Newton said Wednesday of Benjamin's lack of production, via NFL.com. "And if I'm speaking for it, that won't happen again. "He's too good of a player, as well as Devin (Funchess) and Ted (Ginn) and those guys. Philly (Brown) had a great game, did everything the coaches asked him to do and more. We just have to find ways to stay on rhythm. We weren't running in rhythm and we have to find any and every way to stay in rhythm in a hostile environment."

Benjamin came into the game against Minnesota with 13 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns. But the Vikings' stellar defense, which has held opponents to 13.3 points per game, neutralized Benjamin's depth-threat capabilities.

The defending NFC champion Panthers need to bounce back from their 1-2 start, and their Week 4 matchup against the NFC South-leading Falcons would be a perfect time. Getting Benjamin more involved would be a great first step.
