Calais Campbell says Cardinals 'have a lot of leaders' on defense

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell is not worried about the players and coaches the Cardinals lost on defense this offseason.

Veteran defensive end Darnell Dockett signed with the 49ers, while linebacker Larry Foote will now be in a coaching role for the Cardinals. Defensiv coordinator Todd Bowles left to become the head coach of the New York Jets.

"We have a lot of leaders. Losing players is part of the game. On the defense, we're not missing any leadership," Campbell told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

Campbell is confident the loss of Bowles will not hurt the defense too much because they replaced him with a familiar face in James Bettcher.

"It's good that we already have a relationship with him," he said. "You know, we had a really good relationship with him when he was a linebacker coach and now being a D-coordinator, it's cool to continue to have that relationship."

Campbell thinks it will be good for the defense that they don't have to learn a brand new system under Bettcher.

"That's nice. Everything is the same," he said. "They (Bowles and Bettcher) are very similar. Bettch, he's changed some of the drills. (He has us do) a lot more run fits and a lot more communication, make sure everyone is on the same page."
