Byron Maxwell only signed with Philadelphia Eagles for the money

Byron Maxwell only signed with the Philadelphia Eagles so he could be rich.

Remember that ridiculously expensive contract the Philadelphia Eagles signed Byron Maxwell to in 2015?

Yeah, that’s pretty much the only reason why he decided to come to Philadelphia.

In an interview with ESPN Tuesday, Maxwell claimed that the main reason why he left the Seattle Seahawks to join the Eagles was because of the money.

“Cash flow, all day,” Maxwell said. “They were close. But I can’t make that back in my lifetime. So I had to go.”

The Eagles signed Maxwell to a six-year, $63 million deal in 2015’s free agent frenzy. In Maxwell’s one season with the Eagles, he was pretty awful, allowing a 100.7 passer rating when targeted, per Pro Football Focus.

The Eagles did, however, end up getting the last laugh after all. Maxwell (along with Kiko Alonso) was traded to the Miami Dolphins this offseason in exchange for the No. 8 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, which the Eagles used to trade up and select Carson Wentz, their new franchise quarterback.

The Eagles may have been duped by Maxwell at first, but he’s not their problem anymore.

Good luck, Miami!
