Now, this is not the news that Dirk and the Buccaneers needed two days before the home opener.

As reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Austin Seferian-Jenkins was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol early Friday morning and remained in a Florida jail as of 8:30 this morning. He was charged with a misdemeanor DUI.

Not a great turn of events for a player that had been looking to finally make a difference, and was the leading receiver at tight end with three receptions for 44 yards and one touchdown.

As of the writing of this post, his status for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams is unclear. If “ASJ” is forced to sit out on Sunday, that will put the position on the shoulders of Cameron Brate, with Luke Stocker‘s game status still up in the air due to injury.

The biggest question we have to ask here is, what is he thinking? This is a critical year for the young tight end. He has spent the first two years of his career flashing talent, but sitting on the sidelines due to injury. Austin finally needed a year where he could put it all together and be a legitimate weapon in the NFL. So far in 2016, all signs were pointing up.

Now with this, we may very well be seeing the beginning of the end. ASJ just doesn’t get it.
