Browns ship LB Wimbley to Oakland
The Cleveland Browns have traded outside linebacker Kamerion
Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders for undisclosed draft compensation,
a league source told Scout.com.
Wimbley's career with the Browns started off well after he
was selected in the first round of the 2006 draft. He posted 11
sacks as a rookie, but totaled only 16.5 over the next three
seasons. Wimbley started and played in 63 out of 64 regular-season
games for the Browns. The only game he missed was in 2009 because
of flu-like symptoms.
With the Raiders, there's a pretty good possibility he will
move to defensive end because Oakland runs a 4-3 scheme. Wimbley
played only end at Florida State, but moved to outside linebacker
in Cleveland's 3-4 scheme.
A source said the final season of Wimbley's six-year rookie
deal will void, but there's a $7.765 million buyback for 2011.
Wimbley is set to make $1.065 million in base salary for 2010.
