Broncos WR Thomas out with ankle injury

Denver receiver Demaryius Thomas won't return after injuring his left ankle in the third quarter of the Broncos' game against the San Diego Chargers.

Thomas was hurt Monday night on a seemingly innocent ankle tackle by Chargers cornerback Antoine Cason after Thomas made a catch for no gain during the Broncos' opening drive of the second half. Denver announced Thomas wouldn't return.

Thomas had three catches for 17 yards against the Chargers, giving him 22 receptions for 283 yards and two touchdowns this season. He is the Broncos' fourth-leading receiver.

San Diego led Denver 28-7 early in the third quarter.
