Brian Hoyer injury update: Exits game with forearm injury

Chicago Bears starting quarterback Brian Hoyer had to exit Thursday Night Football with a forearm injury. He’s getting x-rays and it doesn’t look good.

Anything can happen on a Thursday. That includes seeing Chicago Bears starting quarterback Brian Hoyer leave the game against the Green Bay Packers with an obvious forearm injury.

Hoyer was sacked in the second quarter of Thursday Night Football. He was in serious pain, grabbing his injured forearm. Hoyer went back into the Lambeau Field locker room to have some x-rays done. It would be shocking if Hoyer didn’t break his arm.

That means the Bears will have to trot out its third string quarterback Matt Barkley the rest of the way. Barkley is in his fourth season out of the University of Southern California. He hasn’t panned out to the hype he once had quarterbacking the USC Trojans.

Expect Chicago to play an ultra-conservative game for the rest of Thursday Night Football. This isn’t because Barkley can’t throw the football (he can), but he is the only other quarterback that dressed for this game. Keep in mind that the Bears’ Week 1 starter Jay Cutler is still out with an injury of his own.

Chicago has stumbled to 1-5 on the season, but the Bears were only down 3-0 to the rival Packers early in this game. If the Bears can pound the rock with running back Jordan Howard and play good defense, there is a chance Chicago can upset Green Bay on the road with Barkley at the helm.

CBS’ Tracy Wolfson stated that Hoyer will be out for the rest of the game with a forearm injury. That means nothing bad can happen to Barkley under center for the Bears, as Cutler isn’t eligible to come in for this game. It’s all up to Barkley to prevent the Bears from falling to 1-16 on the season.
