Brian Dawkins rips the Philadelphia Eagles defense

While Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis' job may be safe according to head coach Chip Kelly, one former Eagles great feels a change may be needed.

Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins heavily criticized the Eagles' defense Tuesday morning on ESPN 97.5 The Fanatic's “Mike Missanelli Show.”

"I’m not seeing it on a consistent basis," Dawkins said of the defense’s effort. "I’m not seeing it from guys I expect to see it from. When you go out and go crazy and completely give everything that you have, that bleeds off onto other guys. And I’m not seeing that."

Dawkins also discussed how he feels Bill Davis' squad lacks certain key attributes that make a defense great. Specifically, he says there's no sense of nastiness.

"Stop helping people off the ground. When you knock a dude down, let him stay down," Dawkins said emphatically. "It sends a message that ‘I’m going to be there all day. I’m not going to help you up, so don’t even offer me your hand.’ That’s what I’m talking about."

Dawkins certainly makes a few valid points. The Eagles currently rank 25th overall in the NFL in total defense and just let a rookie quarterback throw five touchdowns against them. In addition, Eagles opponents have put up at least 27 points in three of the past four games.
