Brandon Spikes sentenced to one year probation in crash

Brandon Spikes isn’t getting off the hook this time around.

The free agent linebacker appeared in court Wednesday and was found guilty on three counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury. He was sentenced to one year probation, had his licensed revoked for a year and also was slapped with a $1,000 fine.

Spikes’ punishment stems from an incident in early June, when the 27-year-old’s car was found abandoned on I-495 near Foxboro, Mass. The New England Patriots subsequently released Spikes just weeks after signing him to a one-year contract, and a police investigation found that he was involved in a hit-and-run after rear-ending an SUV carrying a family of three.

According to police, the crash caused minor injuries to a local man and woman and their 12-year-old son, who all were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass., for treatment.

A verdict wasn’t reached on the other charges brought against Spikes, which included operating a motor vehicle negligently to endanger, speeding and failure to stay within marked lanes.
